I think everyone danced well , except me i guess :p I wont be writing much about the video as it will be a surprise.
Early morning started off with a visit to The Crystal as a research tour. Here we leant how to build a sustainable building by using renewable resources. It was quite interesting and useful for all of us and especially for the design students. According to the concept of Wing's Cafe renovation plan, reclaimed furniture’s will suit the cafe's dining area and also will be very helpful in financial wise. More on reclaimed furniture’s are explained below.
What? It is a preloved furniture that rediscovered and ready to be recycled into something new and useful. It is usually made of premium and plenty of materials which are immensely strong. Why? Generally, recycling and reusing a material gives lot of benefits towards the user as well as the environments. The most obvious environmental benefits of using reclaimed wood as opposed to non-recycled materials are that it prevents unnecessary waste flows. Besides, this may also reduce the statistic on forestation activity. Indeed, also to mention the fact that reclaimed timber is preferable as it offers a unique, quirky and exquisite look. Where? More and more people are now favor in getting reclaimed furniture for shops or home finishes and decoration. Yet, more market and business operate to supply plenty design of antique furniture starting from to a little sophisticated key hanger to a huge wardrobe. Refer this link for 50 antique and vintage shops in London, http://www.homesandantiques.com/feature/shopping/50-best-vintage-shops . Who? Some will even dare to spend huge amount of money to work or search for their style of item. http://www.communitywoodrecycling.org.uk/buy-wood/ is an good example of manufacturer who been producing a wide range of quality recycled wood. It has been great pleasure working with a great positive team and wish to stay on track until the program ends. Royale set a great vision and working towards it to for an outstanding outcome. We can do this team Royale..!! As the Royale team planned, we had agreed to meet up on Saturday morning for a video shoot on 'My London',which is a part of the project. So we went to the green park to do the first shoot.. Today we visited the E4 Channel Live Show-Virtually Famous. It was a funny and an interesting live show, where we had a very good time. This visit helped us to learn and experience how to record a show. This was a very special and an unforgettable visit, since it was our first time for a show. Virtually Famous is a British comedy panel game show presented by Kevin McHale. He hosts the comedy panel show with team captains Seann Walsh and Chris Stark that celebrates the weird and wonderful world of online sensations. A great day to remember !! The meeting was suppose to start at 10 am,but few our team member were late. So our coordinators were very disappointed. It was an embarrassing morning for our group but we manage to make things right.
This meeting is basically a workshop which is about business planning conducted Mr. Paul Gilliam. This sessions was essential for all Global Campus students, who are working on Wings Cafe Hub & Club project and also thinking of setting up their own business. We had two sessions, first half it was about how to manage our café and what a business plan is, whether there is a right or wrong way about it, what to include and how to translate all our ambition into an efficient, persuasive and profitable strategy. The second session was solely for our business student. They learnt about some of the techniques and methods to calculate the cost of the café. Besides, how to promote the product of a café. This workshop was very helpful for our project. Conducted by : Mr. Paul Guilliam The project is on its way to the completion, where fifty percent of the work has been done successfully. As today was the critics day, a small presentation held in order to update our work. It was a nervous evening for our team, but as we got along with the presentation everything started rolling smooth.
Our managing director Alia started off with explaining from top to bottom and pass it to Deva who is our operation director. From there onwards each of the departments started explaining their contribution towards the project. As per the judges, the project was overall a success but had few weaknesses which will be patched up soon. It was an unexpected conversation with the panel of judges and a great experience. The team was appreciated for the good team work, which gave great confidence to go forward. Judges Panel : Mehrdad Borna Jake Morton It was a great sunny day in London. The day started off with a workshop on how to create a blog and we were put into a group of 9 members to work on a project. After this session we had another academic briefing on the local cafe and the cereal killer cafe. End of this session we had a tour to those cafes. Our project was assigned to us, which was renovating/redesigning the Wing's Cafe of LimKokWing University. So we had a visit to few nearby cafes at the piccadilly street and piccadilly circus such as Nero Cafe, Starbucks Coffee, Costa , Pret and etc. Yeayy!! So this is the 1st day of the London global campus. The first meet up at the campus was at 9.45am. New people and a new environment was so exciting for all of us. so we begin the day with registration and welcome briefing and the concept, rules and regulations of London campus by the staff . It was already lunch time, after we had a guided walking tour by a tour guide to some of the tourist attraction places. As it was our first visit to the London, it was a dream come true for us to see the famous Buckingham Palace. A beautiful building with its unique architecture in it. After, it was the St James's park, which was a mind blowing experience with beautiful sceneries. Finally we visited Big Ben and the cathedral. Today is the research tour, which is to Royal Albert Hall. It is a concert hall on the northern edge of South Kensington, best know for holding Proms concerts annually, each summer since 1941. It was an interesting tour since we all loved the historical feel of the building.
The interior was so luxurious and a marvellous piece of creation . It was a good lesson for us to know about the history of building and how they used the old technical methods to constructed it. Additionally we learnt about how to use proper lighting to create a beautiful environment within. It was a great experience and a lesson for us to combine it with our ongoing project. Today was an industrial visit which was to the British broadcast corporation. BBC !! Yayy...Today the GC coordinators brought us to the one of the oldest broadcasting channels..wow..Its almost 96 years old. The tour in BBC gave us a inside look of how it would be like working in a broadcasting field. We also had a chance to do news report and weather forecast as well as radio drama. If i'm being honest It was one of the best visit and my favourite. Today the tour was to the WINDSOR,BATH,and STONEHENGE. We got together at the york way, which is closer to the king's cross station at 8am. So our 1st destination is the windsor castle, which is in the Berkshire. This castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world. the palace has it's own unique design which reminds you of fairytale fantasies. We also had a swan feeding session along the river near the castle. secondly we moved on to the Bath, a beautiful Georgian City. it is the one of finest world heritage sights with many ancient buildings such as Bath Abbey, the famous Pulteney Bridge and etc. Finally it was Stonehenge, one of the most famous sites in the world which has a history of 5000 years. Stonehenge is said to be build by some of the surrounding sophisticated people during that era. These are some of the the must visit places if you come to London. It was a fun day for all of us. we met up on campus at 1pm. And we had a visit to the very famous Madame Tussauds, the wax museum in London, which also can be found in few other country. The museum was beyond our expectation, our jaws dropped when we saw the wax statue of the celebrities, sportman/woman, the royal family and so on. The best part of the museum is the tour to the spirit of the London ride, which is a ride to the ancient London. we also went to the 3D super hero theatres. we were so excited to see the waxed statues and busy taking pictures with it. Today we met on campus at 9am. duhh.. so early!! well, we had a research tour to the urbanistas exhibition at the Roca Gallery by Zaha Hadid. As architecture students it was a great opportunity for us to visit this amazing place. The concept of the gallery was water, which was mind blowing. Do you guys know, that in this gallery there's 25 columns but when you enter the gallery, it was all hidden by the design of the gallery. There's also bathroom design which were exhibit in the gallery. These designs give us so much of inspiration to learn more on her designs. It was a much needed visit. Afternoon sessions was the ground discuss about how the planning is done. We also discuss about our concept . We decided to go with a Malaysian style café, because Limkokwing is a Malaysia university so we will be able to promote our campus. Besides, we did some research on a café in Ipoh (Malaysia). Interior of the café looks artistic and creative, where customers will be comfortable and fresh in the café. It is a very simple café but they were using some creative idea to decorated it Additionally, we came up with the bubble diagram to arrange our space. As per the plan we have to break some of the walls to make the interior more comfortable and wider. The business planning will follow up by Nong and Billy. I will be in-charge of making a sketchup 3D model. After finalizing the project will be doing a complete 3D model for the cafe. It was the consultation session and research tour of Olympic stadium. So today is the third day of GC. We were split in to 3 groups so that we can start up the project along with our supervisor. Later at 1 pm we left for a research tour to the Olympic Stadium. Uh...The place was so huge that it took us 4 hours to walk around Queen Elizabeth Olympic park. I must say that 4 hour walk was so worth that we learnt alot of things. Bad food. Bad service. Now it is revealed that bad lighting would ruin a business. According to a survey of utility npower, nearly one third of Brits have walked out of a pub or a restaurant because of lighting change their mood.
Different people have different moods when entering a restaurant. Some customer prefer dim lights and some prefer bright light. So the lighting should satisfy all of these customers who stepping in. Setting up the suitable lighting is a great difficult task. The interior designer should have a good experience in order to select the best. So as we can observes lighting will play a major role in a restaurant. Customers choose a restaurant not only for the food but also for a good environment and to enjoy their selves. The whole eating out experience needs to make good memories in order for them to visit again. As the current trend, where people are more socialized, they look for places which can bring them entertainment and a place to relax.
Basis of a good interior would be the colour and the lighting effect which will play a major role in the business. The colours used in a restaurant should be chosen more wisely and seriously. Starting from wall colours to a plate in a table matters for a customer. When considering the lighting it should be designed according to the theme of the restaurant. But most of the customers would not like more bright lightings. Apart from these, wall hangings, furnitures, ornaments, wall carvings and many more interior designing factors can attract more customers. Wings cafe is a challenging project for the ROYALE team. The cafe is situated in an underground premises of a historical building. The key challenging factor of this project is,making it more attractive and unique in order to make the customers find the premises.
The architectural team has decided to go with a urban style for the interior. The cafe will contain a great mixture of different colours and unique lightings. Furnitures for the cafe will be fully wooden with some attractive colours. Entertainment will play major role in this cafe. Compared to other cafes in London, it will attract a vast number of teenagers. ROYALE will be introducing many fun filled activities for a cafe such as, american pool, football tables, live musical shows, stand up comedy and many more. |
